My Proposal in Luxor
THE BIG EVENT: After our Hotel’s New Year’s Eve dinner event and just before midnight, the hotel staff started to light paper balloons. In Luxor they do this instead of fireworks. We watched them start to light some of them just minutes before midnight. As they started to light them and let them go, I asked Marcy to go back up to the 4th floor balcony area so that we can look over the city and the west bank of the Nile River. We watched thousands of lighted paper balloons floating into the sky over the Nile River and Luxor across the way. I asked Marcy if she loved me. She said yes she does… Then I asked her “Do you really love me?” She was about to say yes when I got down on one knee and proposed to her. She was absolutely surprised and excited. I saw tears of joy (which she later claimed was dust – right!). Of course she said yes! I thought there was no better place to propose to the woman I love so much than on one of our fantastic trips. Unbeknownst to Marcy, I had been carrying that engagement ring in my back pack for the previous 9 days – and I was nervous as hell that some security guard would open it up in front of her (there was security and bag inspection almost everywhere we went in Egypt). It made this trip to Luxor very special for us both.
Sorry.. no pictures of the actual proposal, we were alone on the balcony and I missed the moment! But it all went as planned!
We got married 7 months later.
Marcy made our wedding cake to look like luggage! So cool.
Our rings were custom made by Fox Fine Jewelry in Ventura California. George Fox and his staff are excellent!
