Adventures in Curaçao
Instead of the usual Playa Del Carmen Mexico for the holidays, we decided to use up our Hilton Hotel points and get 5 free nights in Curacao, which part of the Netherland Antilles. It was the only Hilton in the southern Caribbean area. We left on December 24th from LAX and flew to Miami. From there it was another 3.5 hour flight to the island that is very close to Venezuela.
We got to the island at 9pm and picked up our rental “car”. They no longer had any cars so we got a 4 door pickup truck. Later we would be thankful for that change.
We drove the 15 minutes to the Hilton and checked in. Since we are Hilton Honors Gold members we were lucky to upgrade to an ocean view room and have access to the executive lounge. The lounge access is great because you can get free bottles of water. This is important when the temperature feels like 92 degrees each day.
The next day we drove to down town Willemstad, the main city and capital. Since it was Christmas day, not much was open but we were able to walk around and we did find one place to eat.
They have a very old “swinging” pontoon bridge that swings open across the bay to let in the large ships.
Our hotel grounds and beach was nice looking and you can always spot an iguana soaking up the sun.

We decided to drive around the island to scout out a nice beach to spend the day. We drove to the the “northpunt” area of the island first… Boy we were glad we had the truck as the road ended and large puddles were in our path. We didn’t find the perfect beach.
So we continued our quest and after several stops we finally found the best beach!
Later we found a great pizza place right next door with good drinks and a great sunset!
We also found a great steak and rib place downtown at a place called Rif Fort. Food can make you happy!
All in all we had a great trip and we were glad we pick this little island for our holiday!
