Adventures in Hawaii:
Marcy and I wanted a quick, relaxing vacation. We decided on Hawaii since we could use our points at the Sheraton Waikiki and points for the round trip airfare. We had a late flight out and got to the hotel about 11:30PM. At first we got a room that had a partial ocean view. Actually I would have called it a full city view. The other down side to the room was that it was at the end of the floor and as far away as you can get from the elevator. I was using a cane so I really wanted something closer. We decided to check at the SPG desk to ask for another room the next morning. So glad we did as the girl at the desk hooked us up with a full ocean view room and it was closer to the elevator. Now we felt like we got a great deal. The rooms go for $455 a night and we got them for nothing. I love travel points!
So after we got the great new room, we went to the pool. We rented one of the two person cabanas to rest on. It was a good move since you can only be by the pool if you rent and it was crowded so we are glad we reserved. There was a great view of Diamond Head also.
We rested all day Saturday and went to a local restaurant called Side Street Inn. It was on a side street and it is frequented by all the locals. On the way there we were shocked at how many buildings were in Waikiki now. It has built up a lot since we were here 8 years earlier. The food was really good so I am glad I researched the local spots.
We took one of the days and flew to the big island to Kona airport. We had reserved a helicopter tour that flew for 2 hours around the island. Most importantly to me was flying over the active volcano. It was a really long ride. I enjoyed the volcano the most. To see flowing lava that is still steaming and burning down trees in its path was pretty cool.
After the active day of flying to the Big Island, we had another rest day. We had another cabana reserved so we grabbed that after lunch. It was nice to hang out and relax. After that we jumped onto a hop on, hop off bus. We just wanted to get the feel of Honolulu again. Very busy and lots of traffic.
We were happy we went to Hawaii again. We needed the rest and relaxation.
